Group Roles

Modified on Tue, 25 Nov at 12:55 PM

Each user in a group is allocated one of the following roles within the group:

  1. Main user
  2. Standard user
  3. Dependent user
  4. Administrator user

The role of the user is linked to the group, which means that a user can have different roles if they belong to multiple groups for each group. In addition to the roles above, users can also be assigned the role of an Emergency contact by individual users.

To learn more about group roles, you can watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVKSPtieyuY

User roles are defined as follows:

  1. Main user – This user is the owner of the group and is responsible for creating the group, inviting other users to join the group, and assigning roles based on the needs of both the group and individual users. The Main user manages the subscription account and can upgrade or change the subscription plans. Each group can have only one (1) Main user.

The Main user is also responsible for setting up locations, time frames (routines), and other critical rules for the group, including those that affect other users. They have full visibility into the location of users with the Dependent role and receive all alerts and notifications related to their locations, based on the configured places and time-frames (routines). The Main user can also request SOS emergency services for themselves, users with the Dependent role in their group and for any user who has designated them as an Emergency contact within the app.

Main users can choose to turn off their own location sharing and related notifications, and they can opt in or out of receiving notifications from other group members.
    1. Administrative user –The Administrative user (or “Admin” user) can set up places, time-frames (routines), and other critical rules for the group, including those that affect other users. Together with the Main user, the Admin user/s of the group can manage the rules and configuration settings for the group. Each group can have multiple Admin users, as designated by the Main user within the group.

Admin user/s have full visibility into the location of users with the Dependent role and receive all alerts and notifications related to their locations, based on the configured places and time-frames (routines). The Admin user/s can also request SOS emergency services for themselves, users with the Dependent role in their group and for any user who has designated them as an Emergency contact within the app.

Admin user/s can choose to turn off their location sharing and related notifications and can opt in or out of receiving notifications from other group users.
      1. Standard user – A Standard user within the group, typically an adult, has the autonomy to set up rules within the app that apply to themselves, including configuring Places and time-frames (routines), and designating selected users as their Emergency Contacts within the app. However, a Standard user cannot set group-level places or time-frames (routines) that affect other users within the group. Each group can have multiple Standard users, as designated by the Main user within the group.

Standard users can also request SOS emergency services for themselves and for any user who has designated them as an Emergency Contact within the app. However, Standard users cannot view the location details of users with a Dependent role in the groups they are members of.

Standard users can choose to turn off their location sharing and related notifications and can opt in or out of receiving notifications from other group users.

  1. Dependent User - A Dependent user within the group is typically someone identified by the Main user as requiring oversight. Dependent users have limited functional autonomy and visibility within the app. Control over and visibility into a Dependent user's location and profile is granted to the Main user and Admin users in the group.

For example, Dependent users cannot:

  • View the location of other users on the app
  • Request SOS emergency services for themselves directly,
  • Set up places or time-frames (routines),
  • Receive alerts and notifications based on their own movement patterns,
  • Configure their own Emergency Contacts, or
  • Disable their location sharing within the app.

The Main user and Admin user/s in the group have full visibility into a Dependent user's location and location history, based on the rules configured for that user. They are also automatically designated as the Dependent user’s Emergency Contacts within the app and will receive alerts and notifications according to the configured rules. Furthermore, the Main user and Admin users can request SOS emergency services (if they have subscribed to a Premium plan) on behalf of Dependent users.

Each group can have multiple Dependent users, as designated by the Main user. By default, a Dependent user is not permitted to join additional groups. However, if a Dependent user wishes to join another group, the Main user or an Admin user can change their role from Dependent to Standard user, which then allows them to join additional groups.

  1. Emergency Contacts - Emergency Contacts are users who are alerted by the app when a risk is detected for another user for whom they are emergency contact for. In addition to receiving risk-related alerts, the app enables the Emergency Contacts to escalate these alerts. In the case that the user is a member of a group that is subscribed to a Standard plan, upon escalation of the SOS, the app notifies all the user’s emergency contacts of the emergency. In the case that the user is a member of a group that is subscribed to a Premium plan, escalating the SOS notifies emergency services and the dispatch of an emergency vehicle to the user.

Main users, admin and standard users in the app can configure one or more Emergency Contacts for themselves. Any user with the role of Main user, Admin user, or Standard user can be designated as an Emergency Contact. Main and Admin users within a group are automatically assigned as Emergency Contacts for Dependent users in that group. This default assignment cannot be changed within the app. To view emergency contacts activity, go to the inbox section of the app. Once a user is assigned as an emergency contact, this will be visible under this section of the inbox.

Role applications for multiple groups – If a user belongs to more than one group and holds different roles across those groups, the app will apply permissions and rules based on the highest role assigned to the user. For example, if a user has a Standard user role in one group and an Admin user role in another, the app will grant the user Admin-level permissions across all groups they are a member of.
